In the past few years, there has been a buzz on Electrical Stimulation or E-Stim. What is it? Some claim that it is an alternative to steroid. However, how true are the claims of E-Stim proponents? And what is the real truth?

The Claim……

E-Stim claims that it can aid bodybuilders to get stronger quicker and faster. In the olden days, this is achieved with the help of anabolic steroids. E-Stim is claimed to be a safer alternative to steroids. It has no adverse (whether short term or long term) effects on the body. Athletes have been using E-Stim device called Compex Sport to maintain and increase their strength as well as performance. In Europe, tests have proven that E-Stim helps in increasing muscle size and strength. It also aids in endurance and muscle recovery.

The Truth……..

E-Stim is not going to help you build rock hard muscles while you are sleeping or sitting on the couch watching your favourite TV shows. It is true that E-Stim is approved by doctors. However, doctors prescribe E-Stim for back pain as well as other muscle pains. In short, E-Stim is proposed for athlete rehabilitation.

E-Stim does not help you build muscle from scratch. However, it does help to increase muscular density. High muscle density will make your muscles as hard as a brick wall. Nevertheless, this is not the same as the “puffy” muscle that you get if you actually work out.

Another problem with E-Stim is that it does not work on small muscle groups like the biceps, triceps as well as calves. It only works on large muscle groups such as your chest and back muscles.

While E-Stim does not actually help to build muscles, it does help bodybuilders to break through a barrier. For example, if the bodybuilder feels that his lower body is weaker compared to his legs, he can use E-Stim to maintain his chest muscles for a few weeks while training his legs.
